Jennifer Collier, Owner and Director
I am the proud Owner and Director of Basic Elements Academy. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University, located in Richmond, Virginia, with Bachelors Degrees in Elementary Education, English, and a minor in Dance and Choreography. In addition, I earned my California Teacher Credentials for Early Childhood, Elementary Education and Directorial units.
I began my experience as an educator in the elementary school setting working at Richmond City Public Schools, the Hanover County and Prince George School Districts. From my first day in the classroom, I was determined to make a difference that would impact my students for the rest of their scholastic career. During participation in an educational service-learning program at Virginia Commonwealth University, a program inspired my passion to work with elementary students, where the spark of learning is first initiated. I often remark that “upon seeing twenty smiling faces welcoming me into their little world, I knew my heart had found its home.”
After moving to San Diego, I began studying California Common Core Standards and immersed myself in studies to achieve my California Teaching Credentials. While working with schools in North County and San Diego, I noticed a disconnection in programs not catering to the elementary child, especially as it pertained to before-and-after school care. Many local facilities parents must choose from are located inside a preschool setting. School-aged students do not have their own before-and-after school of their own. I made it my goal to change the traditional “daycare” setting to enable children to receive educational tutoring services, immerse in specialized STEAM classroom environments, and most of all have fun. This is how I developed the creative, yet educational culture of Basic Elements Academy.
Currently, I live in Murrieta with my husband, Dakota, and our dogs, Cookie, Cupcake, and Buddy. When I am not at Basic Elements Academy, I enjoy cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers, frequenting the beach, and visiting Disneyland.
